Prison Services

Prisoners For Christ Outreach Ministry’s primary focus is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to inmates in jails, prisons and juvenile detention centers. We seek to reach the lost and hurting behind bars through the healing and saving power of God’s grace.

To some people, prison ministry may seem a bit intimidating at first, but once you get past the security guards and fences, it is very much like a small church service. Many of our volunteers come away feeling like they were the ones ministered to by the inmates! It is an extremely rewarding and satisfying experience to worship and share the Word together with our brothers and sisters behind bars.

MUSIC AND DRAMA

Many inmates who would not typically attend a chapel service or Bible study will attend an outreach concert or theatrical performance. Music and drama have an amazing way of softening even the most hardened hearts. If you are gifted in music or drama, you can use your gifts to make a profound impact on the lives of many inmates.  When our volunteers share stories from their own lives, inmates can relate to them on a personal level, and see how the saving power of Jesus has given them new life. We are looking for artists of all genres to join us and serve those who are forgotten in our society.

YARD OUT

Yard Out is PFC's inmate newspaper, compiled completely of inmate submissions like art, poetry, and testimonies from all over the United States. Each copy of Yard Out is handled by an estimated 5 inmates each due to the nature of passing information behind bars. We publish 58,000 copies three times a year. That means we have the potential of reaching 870,000 prisoners through Yard Out alone. Our goal is to have inmates encourage other inmates in their faith and give those who aren't Christians an opportunity to choose a life of faith. PEN PAL MINISTRY

The Pen Pal program provides a ministry of friendship, mentoring, and encouragement. It is a vital link to the outside world for many inmates. Quite often, a letter from a Pen Pal is the only contact an inmate will have with anyone on the outside. Writing and receiving a hand-written letter can sometimes be the last bit of hope that an inmates holds on to. If you are interested in encouraging an inmate and sharing the love of Jesus, being a Pen Pal is a great place to start. We especially need Christian men who are willing to set aside an hour every few weeks to correspond with a male inmate. The waiting list is always long.

Literature Distribution

God often uses “jail time” to draw inmates closer to Him. Chaplains from all across the country send requests for assistance in supplying inmates with Bibles and chapel libraries with Christian books and other materials. Through the generous donations of our donors, tract publishers, and other Christian organizations that publish Bibles, magazines, and booklets, PFC is able to pass on material to the chaplains and inmates.

BIBLE STUDY CORRESPONDENCE School

Our Bible Study Correspondence School (BSCS) is a ministry that serves approximately 2,600 inmates who wish to learn more about God and His Word. This Bible-based curriculum increases in difficulty over 16 Units and 122 Lessons. Teams of PFC Volunteers review each lesson and write encouraging comments for each answer in each lesson. We encourage writing a short prayer at the end of each one, asking a blessing over each "student". Then the reviewed lesson and the following lesson in the curriculum are mailed to them. For some inmates, this is the ONLY correspondence they have with anyone on the outside, much less anyone who encourages them and speaks life into them. As a sign of their tremendous accomplishment, inmates are sent a Certificate of Completion when they complete each Unit.

TUMI

The Urban Ministry Institute

PFC has teamed up with The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) to provide seminary-level education to inmates at the Washington State Reformatory (WSR) and the Twin Rivers Unit (TRU), both in Monroe. This program has been introduced to facilities around the U.S., but the classes being taught at WSR by PFC volunteers is the first TUMI program in Washington State. To God be the glory.
